Join the NHS Band Family
To be a successful band program, our students need year-round support from our band parents and members of the community. Concessions are the main fundraiser for the NHS Marching Band. The proceeds of concession sales are one of the main reasons our band fees are so low and are a huge source of revenue for the band for new equipment and supplies. Volunteering is super fun and easy and doesn’t require special training or skills.
Over the course of the year, each household is encouraged to donate 10 hours of time in the concession area. Students are required to donate hours in addition to their parents’ hours (This is also a requirement for lettering in band). If your family needs Fair Share hours these 10 can be applied towards the 40 needed to meet the yearly requirement. Any Volunteer opportunity that is eligible to go towards Fair Share will be marked with a *FS.
Please contact the concessions chair at Concessions@NaplesHighBand.com should you have any questions.
PLEASE NOTE: You MUST be at least level 1 volunteer in order to volunteer in any capacity. You can go to https://www.collierschools.com/volunteer and click the green box labeled “Apply to Volunteer” You can start this process the week before school starts. Please note in order to chaperone out of county or overnight you will need to go thru additional screening. Please allow ample time for forms and fingerprints to process.
BONUS: Volunteer 10 hours for the band, and get a free “Band Parent” T-Shirt. Volunteering is the only way to get one, not available for sale!
If you or someone you know (individuals and/or businesses) might be interested in donating raffle items, sponsoring events, or simply lending a hand, we want to hear from you! All parents, guardians, or other persons with a child enrolled and attending Naples High School, and community members interested in supporting the Naples High School Band Boosters’ mission are welcome and encouraged to participate.
How Can You Help?
Concessions
A large majority of the money the band raises come from concessions. It’s our bread and butter, as they say, and it takes a lot of hands in the kitchen to maximize our income! It’s a fun and easy way to get volunteer hours and meet other families in the band. There are a variety of positions available – all are no prior experience necessary! We run concessions for all home events at Staver field – football, band competitions, soccer, LAX, and track meets – so we need help in concessions from August to April. During football season we need at least 30 people per Friday game to run concessions on both the home and visitor sides. You can help as early as 3 pm for set-up before the game…up until we close around 10 pm. Work an hour or two or the whole game! This gets you in free for the game/to watch the band, too! Take your pick: slice & dice veggies, grill burgers/hot dogs, run a register, prepare food as ordered, deliver food/drinks to the counter (called a runner) or help clean up as the game ends. Or pick up food at Costco/Sams that we need each week if that works better for your schedule. The games/meets after football season vary, but are usually weekday evenings and only require 1 adult and 2 students on the home side per game. It’s a slower pace, but just as important as every penny counts.
Chaperoning
To chaperone, you must complete a new application for the 2022-2023 school year. Chaperones are necessary for home football games, as well as away games, band competitions, parades and group trips. The number needed per event varies, but football games usually require 5 people. We need a strong pool of willing chaperones so not every chaperone has to do every event. Maybe you only want to do home games – maybe you’d like to travel with the band (and see them perform) – it’s up to you! Fingerprinting is now only required for traveling outside of Collier/Lee counties or overnight trips. To see procedures for applying to volunteer in the district, go to our View Volunteer Information Page.
Trailer Puller
Have a pickup truck and feel comfortable towing things? We need your help! We have a “small” trailer and a “large” trailer that we use for traveling events to transport our band equipment, props, and instruments. We need TWO trailers pulled for most away events (football games/band competitions), as well as ONE trailer for local events (like parades). The hitch is provided. If we don’t have trailer pullers, we can’t get our stuff there so it would be great to have a team of folks willing to pull so not everyone has to pull every event!
A few key questions that may help you decide if this volunteer gig is right for you:
- Own a large pickup truck or feel comfortable driving a box truck or UHaul?
- Feel comfortable pulling a 25 ft or 35 ft trailer?
- Available on Fridays later afternoon for away football games and some Saturdays for competitions?
