He was involved in many of the school’s performing ensembles, from the Marching Knights, the Jammin’ Knights pep band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Orchestra, and Percussions Ensembles. With these various ensembles, he had many performing opportunities, such as traveling to the Fiesta Bowl in 2013 in Phoenix, AZ, recording a music video with the Blue Man Group, playing with Kansas along with the UCF Orchestra, playing in Madison Square Garden in New York City for a basketball tournament, performing at Disney World and Universal Studios numerous times, and traveling to various cities to play with the Jammin’ Knights pep band for Men’s and Women’s basketball tournaments.
Richard is currently in his second year at Naples High School working with the percussion students and assists other students in the marching band. He also coordinates the Indoor Percussion ensemble, which began in 2019, as they compete with other schools from around the state.
He is currently working to grow his company, RJS Instrument Repair LLC, and focuses on the repair and restoration of musical instruments. He is also able to play multiple instruments, such as percussion, French horn, bassoon, saxophone, flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and piano.
His goal is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for the percussion students as they become stronger musicians and develop as young adults. He wants students to be able to be comfortable in an ensemble setting as they learn their role and proper etiquette in these groups. He is eager to continue his work with the students and wants to see students develop an appreciation for the work they are putting forward.
